Chefs Cool Choko Recipe

The easiest and best way to eat choko.

This is a family recipe – I remember eating this as a kid every winter when we had a choko vine. It’s so easy to make that I find time to make it as a snack or entree even on busy nights.

Never tried Choko? Try this!

Choko can be a boring vegetable but making it this way it enhances the flavor.

RECIPE

Makes 1-2 Serves

Preparation & Cooking Times: Roughly 30 Minutes

INGREDIENTS

Choko (Chayote)

Margarine (or Butter for Non-Vegan Version) to Taste

Salt to Taste

Pepper to Taste

DIRECTIONS

If you never used a choko before, this is what it looks. Like two hands clasped together. The flesh is fresh inside. Cut the choko in half. Choko can be slimy, so run them under cold water while you peel.

Remove the unappetizing seeds and membrane. Put the choko in cold water in a pot and boil them for 20-30 minutes, until soft. It should look translucent when soft.

Cut a crisscross pattern into the choko. It should cut nice and easy. Add as much margarine or butter as you like. Sprinkle salt and pepper on top. Enjoy!
