Life Hack Hollandaise

A life hack way to make hollandaise.

As a chef I learnt to make hollandaise the traditional way. It wasn’t until years later I learnt this simple way. It tastes the same and is a way easier method of making hollandaise.

Basically, fool proof.

There is little to know effort making this. This way is very hard to mess up unlike the traditional method. You can also use a normal blender or food processor.

RECIPE

Makes 2-3 Serves

Cooking & Preparation Time: Roughly 10 Minutes

INGREDIENTS

1 Egg Yolk

2 Teaspoons Water

1 Teaspoon Lemon Juice

Pinch of Salt

110 Grams Butter

Pinch of Cayenne Pepper or Hot Sauce, Optional

DIRECTIONS

In a small saucepan or frying pan, melt butter over medium heat, stirring constantly, until melted and hot. You want the butter a little hot but not hot enough to cook the egg. Once the butter has melted and starts to bubble it’s good to use.  Transfer butter to a measuring cup. In a cup just wide enough to fit the immersion blender, combine egg yolk, water, lemon juice, cayenne pepper or hot sauce and a pinch of salt.

Place head of immersion blender into the bottom of the cup and turn it on. With the blender constantly running, slowly pour the butter into the measuring cup with the egg in a thin stream. If needed, tilt the blender head up slightly to help the emulsification process. Continue pouring until all butter is added. Sauce should be creamy and thick enough to coat a spoon but still flow off from it. If it is too thick, whisk in 1 tablespoon of water at a time, to thin it out to the desired consistency. You can serve it warm or let it cool in the fridge. Enjoy!
